Open DeRec Protocol Conversations at ETHDenver and HederaCon To Include Fireside Chat with Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson and Hedera’s Dr. Leemon Baird
21 February 2025 — The Decentralized Recovery (“DeRec”) Alliance, a community-driven organization focused on the creation and maintenance of an open industry-standard protocol that enables the decentralized protection and recovery of blockchain credentials and other important secrets, today announced its presence at the upcoming ETHDenver and HederaCon Conferences.
Cardano founder and Input | Output CEO Charles Hoskinson and Hedera co-founder Dr. Leemon Baird will be leading the conversation with a fireside chat about the origins, applications, adoption, and future of the royalty-free free protocol and associated Apache 2.0 licensed open source developer tools. The discussion will take place at 12:50pm MST on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at the HederaCon main stage in Denver, CO and will be moderated by Genfinity CEO Ryan Solomon. In addition to their discussion about the significance of the DeRec Protocol, Solomon, Hoskinson, and Baird plan to talk about how the blockchain sector has matured, and what’s ahead given the ever-shifting regulatory environment.
In addition to the fireside chat, the DeRec Alliance will have a presence at both ETHDenver and HederaCon. Delegates attending HederaCon can visit the DeRec Alliance booth on the show floor. For delegates at ETHDenver, please contact DeRec Alliance Manager Bruce Longley, nickname ‘DEREC,’ to arrange a meeting or discussion.
About The Decentralized Recovery Protocol
The Decentralized Recovery (DeRec) open-source protocol is a standard approach to secret management, based on secret sharing among a set of helpers (e.g. friends or businesses), who can assist the user in recovering their secret when needed. Each helper’s share reveals no information about the original secret, and half the helpers can give the user their shares to reconstruct the secret, even when a user has lost their phone or other two-factor recovery device. The protocol includes automatic regular confirmations that helpers still have shares of secrets, and automatic re-sharing when secrets change or helpers join or leave. The user never reveals who the helpers are, nor even how many helpers there are, and even the helpers won’t know that.

About The DeRec Alliance
The DeRec Alliance is a group of more than 20 forward-thinking companies from across the Web2 and Web3 ecosystems that are committed to making the process of securing and recovering digital assets, accounts, and other secrets as simple as existing Web2 experiences. Leveraging a new open source standard, these organizations are working together to help their users and the broader world realize the promise of Web3, without the complexity. The 501(c)(3) not-for-profit DeRec Alliance was founded by leaders from the Algorand, Cardano, Hedera, and Ripple ecosystems.
